A few images produced by Ant-Card, in no particular order...
^ Number of passages, logarithmic scale.
^ Number of passages, logarithmic scale (?); note the slight fluctuations in color in the dark red areas.
^ Rule ++-+-++++-+- after 2293367 steps; number of passages, linear scale (inversed). The ant escapes on the upper left, but instead of creating a thin highway, it creates and fills an angle. This effect was first noticed by Scott Robert Ladd for ant ++-+-++ (which he calls 1101011 (binary) or 107 (decimal)). To be exactly reproduced it needs an ant whose rule begins with ++-+-++++-+- (taking into account that rules are actually periodic so rule ++-+-++ is equivalent to ++-+-++++-+-++++-+-++++-+-++...)
